Uploading a Project to GithHub and Deleting Repository
If you are in trouble with the Git program and you are tired of getting errors on the cmd screen, you can simply upload your projects files to your github repository from your computer by following these steps.
We will use GitHub Desktop instead of Git program. Therefore, if you have not installed it on your computer, you should go to https://desktop.github.com and download the GitHub Desktop program compatible with your computer and install it.
Go to https://github.com and log in to your account. Open your repositories and create a new repo with the “New” button.
We create a public repo. “Public” option is free and accessible to any internet user. Adding a README file and explaining your project in it makes your project more understandable and powerful. With .gitignore, you can choose the programming language or languages you use in your project. Even if you do not select it, the language of your codes will appear automatically. With “license” option, you add a license for the use of your project’s codes. By clicking “Create repository” button, we create our repo.
We will use the GitHub Desktop program now. You must connect with your own github account. By clicking the “Clone a repository” button on the screen, you will make your repo appear in GitHub Desktop application by pasting the link of your repo from the URL section or you can select the created repo from the “GitHub.com” section.
You can make transfers between your repos from Currently repository. You can add and create a new repo with “Add”.
You can access your repo file by this computer> documents> GitHub> deneme (repository_name). If yours are in a different place, you can access your repo file with the path (Local path) that occurs when adding your repo to the program. When you drag and drop your project to this repo file, your project files will be visible in the GitHub Desktop program.
These files haven’t been added to your github repo yet. You can push this project by adding a title to the Summary section and pressing firstly “Commit to main” button then “Fetch origin”.
When we renew the link of the page, your project file or files will now be visible.
When you want to delete your repo, go to the page of the repo and click “Settings” section.
Click the “Delete this repository” button in the Danger Zone box at the bottom of the page, and write your user_name / repo_name (for our example: rumeysaaydogdu / deneme) then press the button. You can permanently delete it by this way.
